The Conference 2023

Conference 2023

Get Hounslow Reading held its first face-to-face meeting in March 2023. The overarching theme was –

Get Hounslow Reading – Keep Hounslow Reading.

It was a busy afternoon packed with keynote speakers, workshops and market stalls. We welcomed special guests including local authors, the Alligator's Mouth book shop and HarperCollins.

Our Ambassadors

We are so grateful to our ambassadors for helping to plan and run the event. Amongst them were keynote speakers sharing their practice and the impact the project has had on their school. Some ran workshops for delegates, others set up networking stalls and ran a Padlet Station.

Delegates were invited to bring a book to exchange at the Book Swap stall. One school set up a reading corner at the event to showcase how they have embedded RfP practice in their setting. Another delivered a talk and set up a stall with ideas for transforming spaces to encourage a whole-school approach to Reading for Pleasure.

Our Experts

Charlotte Raby and Jonny Walker delivered inspirational Reading for Pleasure and Poetry keynotes and ran workshops with our ambassadors.

It was important that we captured the event to share with colleagues across the borough so we hired a film crew.

We are grateful to Crane Park Primary School for accommodating the team and for allowing us to capture Reading for Pleasure in their school.

We are very proud of this project and all the teachers and schools who have been involved. Please click the image below to watch the video and do share via your school websites.

Comic Club Video

Beavers Community Primary School started a comic club and reading cafe as part of the project. They made a video as part of their conference presentation. Please click the image below to watch.
