Get Hounslow Reading

Get Hounslow Reading is a long-term primary project developed to meet the reading needs of schools across the borough.

Facilitator – Charlotte Raby

The project

This three-year project was aimed at growing a team of expert, engaged teachers to develop their practice and knowledge of reading aloud and its impact. Through six online workshops, the programme included:

  • The reading for pleasure research and pedagogy
  • Teacher knowledge of children’s literature, poetry and non-fiction
  • Teachers and children as readers
  • Diversity in books – does our book stock reflect our children’s lives
Ambassadors

After one year of the programme, teachers were invited to become Get Hounslow Reading Ambassadors to embed the RfP pedagogy within their schools.

Contingent Talk with Books

This early language development programme has run for three years. Expert Ambassadors from Alexandra Primary School now run the programme.

The future

Get Hounslow Reading Ambassadors are developing a school-led CPD programme to share best practice with colleagues across the borough. This follows a hybrid model of school visits and online sessions.

Ambassadors continue to meet termly with Charlotte Raby.
