Get Hounslow Reading – Contingent Talk with Books – Nursery/EYs Practitioners

Thu 18 Nov 2021 | 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm

  • This event has passed.
A Reading-for-Pleasure Project for HEP Primary Schools

These workshops are for teachers who have already registered for the full project.

This is the third of five sessions for Nursery/Early Years practitioners.

In this session,  you will set up twilight network sessions for Spring and Summer 2022 which Charlotte will lead.

What is it?
  • 10 minutes – once a week ‘Contingent talk with a book’ sessions with a trained adult.
  • A simple child- centred approach to language learning through talk contingent on the child’s interest based around a book chosen by the child.
  • At least a term’s commitment to providing ‘Contingent talk with a book’ to each child chosen for the programme.
  • It will also be an opportunity to identify colleagues who will be involved in the training sessions.
Impact:
  • Shared reading has a positive impact in children’s language development.
  • Dialogic reading styles are more effective at boosting children’s language development than a simple, storytelling narrative style.
  • Interventions based on dialogic reading styles have a positive impact on children’s expressive vocabulary.
